2006-11-02 - 10:16 p.m. Our medical schools recruit scientists, the application process designed to select those with high marks in bio, chem, and physics. Why would administrators expect healers and not scientists to emerge at the end of 4 years of training? and empathy leaks out and is lost as the years in medical school pass. The physician-patient relationship is damaged, the art of medicine ignored or scorned, healing a concept rarely mentioned, and we wonder where the trust has gone, wonder why patients are upset.
